Florence is a planned town that changed its mind. It was laid out in 1849 by a New York company that bought six hundred acres and put in a wharf, a hotel, landscaped streets and brick houses, meaning to sell riverside summer places a short boat ride from Philadelphia. The resort failed; the Florence Iron Works arrived in 1857 and the same streets filled with foundry workers instead.

How our trucks get here
Deliveries into Florence run off Burlington Pike, Front Street, Delaware Avenue, Florence-Columbus Road, Burlington-Bordentown Road, River Road and the Turnpike’s Pennsylvania Extension.
The village streets are short and end at the river or the rail line, so a truck that overshoots has to go round. A house number and the cross street get a driver there faster than an address alone.

Tanks in Florence homes
Two- and three-story brick and frame houses on the small, regular lots the 1849 street grid laid out, plus the plainer company-built worker housing that went up around the foundry afterwards, and later infill on the roads out toward Columbus. Cellars here were dug for coal and took an oil tank afterwards, so the fill is usually low on a side wall rather than out front.

Source: U.S. Census Bureau, 2019–2023 American Community Survey 5-year estimates, and the 2023 ZCTA Gazetteer. ZIP Code Tabulation Areas approximate postal ZIPs and don’t follow municipal boundaries, so these describe the ZIP rather than the borough or township exactly. The share heating with oil is left out here: the Census sample for this area is small enough that the published margin of error is wider than the estimate is useful, and we’d rather show nothing than a number we can’t stand behind.
Buying heating oil in Florence
This is a small oil market and an honest one to describe: only a small minority of Florence’s 2,077 households burn oil, and too few for the Census to count precisely. There is a certain irony in it — R.D. Wood’s foundry here spent decades casting the water and gas pipe, hydrants and valves that were laid under towns like this one. Florence converted early and thoroughly, and what is left on oil is the houses where running a line was never worth the trench. A market this small is not one a large supplier sends a rep to, which is exactly why the price here goes unchallenged unless somebody checks it. Prices move daily with the wholesale rack, which is why the number above is today’s and not last week’s. Local dealers compete on this page, so the lowest price is always at the top — we don’t sell placement above a better price.
How much oil do you need in Florence?
Order a dollar amount, a number of gallons, or ask for a fill — whichever way you actually think about it. You pay only for the gallons that actually go in, and if the tank takes less, your price per gallon doesn’t go up.
Heating oil in Florence — common questions
Do you deliver heating oil in Florence, NJ?+
Yes, to 08518, which covers Florence village and the township either side of it. Roebling next door is 08554 and has its own page.
There are only a few dozen oil houses left in Florence. Is it still worth ordering online?+
That is precisely why it is. A township with sixty-odd oil customers is not where a large supplier sends a rep, so the local price tends to go unchallenged. Ordering online means you see the number before you commit rather than after the delivery.
What is the minimum delivery in Florence?+
100 gallons, the same as the rest of New Jersey. Most of these houses have a 275-gallon cellar tank, so a fill from low is usually 180 to 220 gallons.
Do you deliver to the Roebling side of the township?+
Yes — Roebling is 08554 and we serve it, but order against the ZIP on your own mail. The two halves of Florence Township are priced from their own ZIP, not from a township average.
Can I get a delivery if my street backs onto the RiverLINE?+
Yes. The tracks close a few streets at the end rather than blocking access, and the drivers know which ones. Mention it in the order notes if your fill is only reachable from the rail side.
